Test and Tag Dunedin – On Site PAT Testing
Get Your Electrical Equipment Certified By Our Test and Tag Technicians Across Dunedin & Otago.
PAT Testing at Your Dunedin Business
Metrotest’s qualified technicians come to your Dunedin business, whether that’s a CBD office, a Mosgiel workshop or a St Kilda facility. We carry out portable appliance testing (PAT testing) on the spot, then test and tag each item so your team keeps working. Every item is assessed to AS/NZS 3760:2022, because electrical faults aren’t always visible and routine testing and tagging is the most practical way to catch them early.
We use our own METROiPAT SupaPAT testers. They run high-current earth bond tests at 10A and 25A (not just a basic 200mA check) and print colour-coded tags with a unique ID, test date, retest date, numerical test values, audit code and QR code.
Failed items get a DANGER tag stating the reason, plus a detailed secondary label. We work with you to follow best lockout procedures with your business.
We test everything that plugs in, from desktop and kitchen appliances to three-phase workshop tools, including leads and accessories, with full auditable records and data provided.
Areas We Service: Dunedin, Mosgiel, Kinmont Park, Waitati, Allanton, Momona.

NZ-Owned Electrical Testing and Tagging Experts Since 1991
Metrotest was one of New Zealand’s first portable appliance testing specialists. In the South Island we’re trusted by the University of Canterbury and Lincoln University, and we’ve worked on Defence sites for decades. We’re not a franchise or reseller: we design, supply, calibrate, repair and use our own PAT testers. Our trained staff, many with Electrical Registration, carry clearances for CAA-regulated facilities, Defence premises, Police, SiteWise and Site Safe workplaces.

Test and Tag Pricing in Dunedin
Our on-site test and tag pricing is straightforward and scales with the size of your job. We quote on a per-item basis, with rates that decrease as your item count goes up — so larger sites and multi-location businesses benefit from better value.
Every quote includes the full service: visual inspection, electrical testing to AS/NZS 3760:2022, colour-coded tag printing with unique IDs and QR codes, failure identification and labelling, and a complete digital test report delivered after the job.
Pricing is based on several factors:
- Total number of items to be tested
- Type of equipment (single-phase, three-phase, fixed or portable, Medical grade for the AS/NZS 3551)
- Site location and accessibility
- Whether this is a one-off service or part of a regular testing programme
For an accurate quote tailored to your site, give us a call on 0800 638 768 or fill in the enquiry form below.
Regular testing contracts are available for businesses that want to lock in better rates and schedule their compliance programme in advance — ask us about annual or biannual arrangements.
Dunedin Test and Tag FAQs
Is test and tag the same as PAT testing?
They’re the same service under different names. Whether you call it test and tag, PAT testing, portable appliance testing or electrical tagging, it means inspecting and electrically testing your plug-in equipment to AS/NZS 3760:2022, then fitting each item with a tag showing the result and when it’s next due.
How often does equipment in Dunedin need testing and tagging?
That depends on where the equipment is used. AS/NZS 3760:2022 sets testing intervals ranging from every 3 months for construction sites and hire gear, out to longer periods for low-risk office equipment. When we quote, we’ll suggest a testing schedule that suits your Dunedin workplace.
Do you come to our site in Dunedin?
Yes, our technicians test on location. From a CBD office to a Mosgiel workshop or a St Kilda facility, we inspect, test and tag your portable electrical equipment where it’s used, so nothing needs to leave your premises.
Which areas around Dunedin do you cover?
We service Dunedin city and surrounding areas including Mosgiel, Kinmont Park, Waitati, Allanton and Momona. If your site is elsewhere in Otago, get in touch and we’ll let you know how we can help.
Will testing interrupt our day?
We keep disruption to a minimum. Items are tested on the spot so your staff can keep working, and we bring all the testers, printers and tags with us. We’ll work around your business hours for one-off jobs or regular visits, and leave your space just as we found it.
What equipment do you test?
If it plugs in, we can test it: office and kitchen appliances, power tools, three-phase workshop equipment, extension leads and accessories.
Which standard do you test to?
All testing is carried out to AS/NZS 3760:2022, the standard for in-service inspection and testing of electrical equipment. Many electrical faults can’t be seen, which is why regular testing is the most practical way to find them before they cause harm.
What happens if an item fails?
Any item that fails is fitted with a DANGER tag stating why, along with a detailed secondary label. We’ll then work with you on the right lockout procedure for your business.
What records do we receive?
After the job you get a complete digital report listing each item’s unique ID, numerical test results, retest date and any failures, ready for audits, insurers and your health and safety records.
Can you test across several Dunedin sites?
Yes. We price per item, and rates drop as the item count goes up, so businesses with multiple locations get better value. We can plan the work site by site to suit your operations.
What information do you need to quote?
Just your site location, roughly how many items you have and what types of equipment they are. A rough estimate is fine. We’ll come back with a fixed price and a proposed start date.
Do you offer regular testing contracts?
We do. An annual or biannual testing contract locks in better rates and keeps your compliance schedule planned well ahead. Ask us about the options when you enquire.
Are your technicians cleared for secure sites?
Yes. Our trained staff, many with Electrical Registration, hold clearances for CAA-regulated facilities, Defence premises, Police, SiteWise and Site Safe workplaces.
Can our own staff do the test and tag instead?
Absolutely. Plenty of Dunedin businesses choose to train someone in-house. We offer an in-person AS/NZS 3760 training course in Dunedin and online test and tag courses, and we supply the PAT testers and labels your team will need. We’re also happy to carry out the first full test and tag, then hand over to your staff.
