Test and Tag Invercargill – On Site PAT Testing
Get Your Electrical Equipment Certified By Our Test and Tag Technicians Across Invercargill & Southland
PAT Testing at Your Invercargill Business
Metrotest’s qualified technicians come to your Invercargill site and carry out portable appliance testing (PAT testing) on the spot, then test and tag each item so your team keeps working. Every item is assessed to AS/NZS 3760:2022, because electrical faults aren’t always visible and routine testing and tagging is the most practical way to catch them early.
We use our own METROiPAT SupaPAT testers. They run high-current earth bond tests at 10A and 25A (not just a basic 200mA check) and print colour-coded tags with a unique ID, test date, retest date, numerical test values, audit code and QR code.
Failed items get a DANGER tag stating the reason, plus a detailed secondary label. We work with you to follow best lockout procedures with your business.
We test everything that plugs in, from desktop and kitchen appliances to three-phase workshop tools, including leads and accessories, with full auditable records and data provided.
Areas We Service: Invercargill, Bluff, Gore & Winton.

NZ-Owned Electrical Testing and Tagging Experts Since 1991
Metrotest was one of New Zealand’s first portable appliance testing specialists. In the South Island we’re trusted by the University of Canterbury and Lincoln University, and we’ve worked on Defence sites for decades. We’re not a franchise or reseller: we design, supply, calibrate, repair and use our own PAT testers. Our trained staff, many with Electrical Registration, carry clearances for CAA-regulated facilities, Defence premises, Police, SiteWise and Site Safe workplaces.

Invercargill Test and Tag FAQs
Are test and tag and PAT testing the same thing?
Yes. Test and tag, PAT testing, portable appliance testing and electrical tagging all refer to one process: checking and electrically testing your plug-in equipment to AS/NZS 3760:2022, then attaching a tag that shows it passed and when it’s due again.
How regularly does equipment need testing in Southland?
It comes down to the environment your equipment works in. AS/NZS 3760:2022 sets testing intervals from every 3 months for construction and hire gear, stretching to longer periods for low-risk office equipment. Your quote will include a recommended schedule for your Invercargill site.
Do you come to us in Invercargill?
Yes. Our technicians carry out all testing at your premises, so there’s no need to bring equipment anywhere. We inspect, test and tag on location and hand each item straight back.
Which parts of Southland do you service?
We cover Invercargill along with Bluff, Gore and Winton.
Can you test equipment at farms, workshops and industrial sites?
Yes. If it plugs in, we can test it, whether it’s workshop power tools, three-phase machinery, extension leads or portable equipment used out on the farm. Harsher environments often need more frequent testing, and we’ll advise on the right interval for your site.
Will testing disrupt our business?
Very little. Items are tested and tagged on the spot, we bring every tester, printer and tag we need, and we’ll fit in around your working hours. Once we’re finished, your space is left as we found it.
What equipment can you test?
Office and kitchen appliances, power tools, three-phase equipment, leads, extension cords and accessories. Basically anything with a plug.
What if something fails the test?
Failed items get a DANGER tag showing the reason, plus a detailed secondary label. We’ll then help you apply the right lockout procedure so the item stays out of use until it’s repaired or replaced.
What records will we have afterwards?
A complete digital report with every item’s unique ID, numerical test values, retest date and any failures noted. It’s ready for audits, insurance purposes and your health and safety file.
What do we need to provide for a quote?
Your address, an approximate number of items and the kinds of equipment involved. An estimate is fine. We’ll come back with a fixed price and a suggested start date, and larger jobs attract volume discounts.
Is ongoing testing available?
Yes. Annual or biannual testing contracts secure better rates and mean your compliance is booked in ahead of time, so nothing slips past its due date.
Can your technicians work on secure sites?
Yes. Our trained staff, many with Electrical Registration, hold clearances for CAA-regulated facilities, Defence premises, Police, SiteWise and Site Safe workplaces.
Could our own team handle test and tag?
They can. Many Southland businesses train a staff member to test in-house. We run an in-person AS/NZS 3760 training course in Invercargill as well as online test and tag courses, and supply the PAT testers and labels you’ll need. We can also do the first full test and tag, then hand over to your team.
