Test and Tag Queenstown – On Site PAT Testing
Get Your Electrical Equipment Certified By Our Test and Tag Technicians Across Queenstown Lakes & Central Otago
PAT Testing at Your Queenstown Business
Metrotest’s qualified technicians come to your Queenstown business, whether that’s a CBD office, a Cromwell workshop or a Wanaka facility. We carry out portable appliance testing (PAT testing) on the spot, then test and tag each item so your team keeps working. Every item is assessed to AS/NZS 3760:2022, because electrical faults aren’t always visible and routine testing and tagging is the most practical way to catch them early.
We use our own METROiPAT SupaPAT testers. They run high-current earth bond tests at 10A and 25A (not just a basic 200mA check) and print colour-coded tags with a unique ID, test date, retest date, numerical test values, audit code and QR code.
Failed items get a DANGER tag stating the reason, plus a detailed secondary label. We work with you to follow best lockout procedures with your business.
We test everything that plugs in, from desktop and kitchen appliances to three-phase workshop tools, including leads and accessories, with full auditable records and data provided.
Areas We Service: Queenstown, Wanaka, Cromwell, Arrowtown, Alexandra.

NZ-Owned Electrical Testing and Tagging Experts Since 1991
Metrotest was one of New Zealand’s first portable appliance testing specialists. In the South Island we’re trusted by the University of Canterbury and Lincoln University, and we’ve worked on Defence sites for decades. We’re not a franchise or reseller: we design, supply, calibrate, repair and use our own PAT testers. Our trained staff, many with Electrical Registration, carry clearances for CAA-regulated facilities, Defence premises, Police, SiteWise and Site Safe workplaces.

Test and Tag Pricing in Queenstown
Our on-site test and tag pricing is straightforward and scales with the size of your job. We quote on a per-item basis, with rates that decrease as your item count goes up — so larger sites and multi-location businesses benefit from better value.
Every quote includes the full service: visual inspection, electrical testing to AS/NZS 3760:2022, colour-coded tag printing with unique IDs and QR codes, failure identification and labelling, and a complete digital test report delivered after the job.
Pricing is based on several factors:
- Total number of items to be tested
- Type of equipment (single-phase, three-phase, fixed or portable, Medical grade for the AS/NZS 3551)
- Site location and accessibility
- Whether this is a one-off service or part of a regular testing programme

Queenstown Test and Tag FAQs
What’s the difference between test and tag and PAT testing?
There isn’t one. Test and tag, PAT testing, portable appliance testing and electrical tagging are all names for the same process: a visual inspection and electrical test of your plug-in equipment to AS/NZS 3760:2022, finished with a tag recording the result and the next due date.
How often should Queenstown businesses test and tag?
The right interval depends on how and where your equipment is used. AS/NZS 3760:2022 sets testing intervals from 3-monthly for construction and hire equipment through to longer cycles for low-risk office gear. We’ll recommend a schedule for your Queenstown site as part of your quote.
Do you test on site in Queenstown?
Yes, everything is done at your premises. Whether you’re in a Queenstown office, a Cromwell workshop or a Wanaka facility, our technicians inspect, test and tag your equipment on location.
Which areas around Queenstown do you cover?
We service Queenstown, Arrowtown, Wanaka, Cromwell and Alexandra across the Queenstown Lakes and Central Otago districts.
Do you test construction site and hire equipment?
Yes. Construction sites and hire equipment have the shortest testing intervals under AS/NZS 3760:2022, so they need regular attention. We test power tools, leads, site boxes and three-phase gear, and can set up a recurring schedule so nothing falls overdue.
Will testing get in the way of our customers or staff?
We work to keep things running as normal. Each item is tested on the spot and handed straight back, we bring all our own testers, printers and tags, and we’ll schedule around your trading hours. When we’re done, your space is left exactly as we found it.
What types of equipment do you test?
Anything with a plug, from kitchen and office appliances to workshop tools, three-phase equipment, extension leads and accessories.
What happens to equipment that fails?
It’s fitted with a DANGER tag explaining the fault, plus a detailed secondary label, and we’ll help you put the right lockout procedure in place so it isn’t used until it’s repaired or replaced.
What paperwork do we get?
You receive a full digital report covering every item’s unique ID, numerical test values, retest date and any failures. It’s ready to hand to auditors, insurers or your health and safety team.
How do we get a quote?
Tell us your location, roughly how many items you have and the types of equipment. An estimate is fine. We’ll send back a fixed price and a proposed date, with volume discounts for larger jobs.
Can we book regular testing?
Yes. Annual or biannual contracts give you better rates and keep your compliance on track without having to remember to book each time.
Are your technicians cleared for secure sites?
They are. Our trained staff, many with Electrical Registration, hold clearances for CAA-regulated facilities, Defence premises, Police, SiteWise and Site Safe workplaces.
Can we train our own staff to test and tag?
Yes. Many businesses prefer to keep testing in-house. We run an in-person AS/NZS 3760 training course in Queenstown as well as online test and tag courses, and supply the PAT testers and labels you’ll need. We can also complete the first full test and tag, then hand over to your team.
